| We travelled from May 22 through June 22 across the U.S, trying to stay off the Interstate highways!
Here are some of the pictures that we took: |
This is a picture of Jessie, and Johnathan, my Granddaughter and great grandson in El Paso, Texas. Our next stop was in Stockton, TX. We left there and went up to Ft Hood TX and stayed in a military campground. We experienced the worst hail and thunderstorm in their history, with major flooding and Katie was terrified with the hail comming down on the roof of the RV. We went on from there and stayed in Garrison TX. |
![]() We were looking for an RV park in Arkansas when we came upon this one in Crossette. It was a city run park, and was only $14 for full hookups and it was on a lake under beatuful pines. From there we went up through Tennessee and stopped at Graceland in Memphis. We were camped within walking distance of the mansion. When I saw that the entrance fee was $45 each, I decided to sit on the bench across the street and view it from there! (Liz had already toured it before). The next stop was in Lebanon TN outside Nashville. We got up the following morning and the clutch on the truck would not work. We ended up replacing the hydraulics and the clutch. |
This is Katie waiting for clutch to be fixed. Her first experience with clover. |
This is a park in either WV or VA, we can't seem to remember which one. The deer in the background roamed throughout the RV park all evening and early morning. Katie was fascinated of course. We then went up through to Pennsylvania where we got into a traffic jam with over 1,000 (not kidding) oldies on the road for over three hours. We found a campground finally and quit for the night. We ate breakfast at the famous Miller's Buffet, a Pennsylvania Dutch restaurant in Strasburg, PA and made the rest of the trip to Robin and Mike's in Millville, NJ |
This is Katie in Robin's back yard. We spent a few days there before heading up to the O'Connor's in Three rivers, MA. |
This is Liz and I with Shaun and Nicole. |
This is Us and Alan and Dianna. From Three Rivers, we went to Putnam, CN and spent a couple of days with Liz's niece Margie. We then went to Cape Cod and visited with our friend Irma. From Cape Cod, we headed back into the hills and made our way down to Mammoth Cave in KY. We were not that impressed with it after seeing Luray and Carlsbad caverns. |
We ended up by accident in Sikeston, MO, and when we went to find someplace to eat dinner, we discovered that this was the home of Lamberts, the original "throwed rolls" restaurant that we had seen a couple of times on the Travel Channel! The food and the atmosphere were great, even with the two hour wait! From here we went through the rolling hills of AK and MO to Branson, MO. It was a Sunday and there were not a lot of shows open that day. We decided to see the Jim Stafford show ("Spiders and Snakes") and it was wonderful. We also had a great dinner at Shorty Small's rib place. We then went through solid rain to the crater of diamonds state park in AK where we spent a couple of hours looking for diamonds (nada!). We went to a state park campground and found out that sometime in the storm the front window on the RV had broken, so we spent a few hours getting a plexiglass replacement made at the local window shop before getting on our way through Texas to Carlsbad Caverns. |
We had taken the elevator down the first time we visited the caverns so this time we decided to walk down! It is over a mile of steep 45 degree pathways to get to the bottom. It was so hard, and my big toes were black and blue by the time we finished! I would never do it again, but it was awesome to go down that way and we would recommend it to anyone who is capable of doing it. We drove all the way home from there the next day, and were sooooo happy to be home. WHAT AN ADVENTURE! |
